Public transit is a vibrant part of the metropolitan experience. I use every available channel to show transit in its natural habitat.
As background, consider my perspective: my motivations first took shape in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This was a magical time for media, for cities and for public transit. With each on an exciting path forward, I thought about how they interacted. I looked for ways that the strengths of one could spark the potential of another.
As for public transit, nearly everyone has something to say about it – good, bad or just uninformed. I can certainly contribute to the conversation – and I can also enhance it by helping transit to speak for itself.
Photo
All photos on this website come from my collection. Over three decades, I have amassed more than 13,000 individual snaps; they cover hundreds of locations throughout North America. I favor unglamorized scenes where transit is fulfilling its best role: a positive presence in everyday life.
In the top "ridge" of each page, the photo spotlights an agency that I have worked with. Then, presented here are other samples from the full collection. I will rotate through different photos from time to time – and I take requests!

Video
While often thought of as entertainment, video is a powerful method to communicate detailed information. I've orchestrated several video projects – to introduce transit routes, to shed light on the back end of transit management, to equip policymakers with transit vocabulary.
I see great potential in transit-focused video. It surmounts the limitations of other mediums; it can make transit content even easier to absorb.
Regarding the video called "The Starting Point"... it's not directly related to this website. I wrote and produced "The Starting Point" in 2021 for a larger project which was cancelled. The video itself survives online – and I repurposed its name for this website.

Illustration
On my first computer – a 1988 Packard Bell with a 286 processor – I sketched transit vehicles in a basic raster painting program. Since then, the technique has evolved to use complex vector illustration tools.
Some drawings have made the leap to new paint schemes on real vehicles. Others are fun ways to mix and match vehicles, locations, designs and periods in history.

Music
Elsewhere in my life, I work with music – which has a shocking amount in common with transit scheduling.
Return to my "transit life": I may, for instance, catch a tune on the radio while scouting a route. The two then become associated. These passing encounters inspired an unofficial TRANSIT PLAYLIST. It "assigns" specific songs to individual transit routes.
Sometimes, the artist hails from the city that I am working on. In a few sparkling examples, the route itself makes a cameo appearance in the music video. Most prevalent are random matches, where, to me, the song captures the spirit of the route for no obvious reason.
Below is a partial playlist, extracted from hundreds of entries. It's sorted by time of day: a calming pre-dawn tune to start... a mid-morning mix for a productive workday... bouncy bops for afternoon rush hour... smooth grooves for a chill night.
Lean in to each pair by following the BLUE BOX LINKS – listen to the audio on a digital platform, view the route on a Google map, and, where available, check out a visual of the route in action. Then add the song to your playlist and go ride the route for real!
(Heads up for explicit, suggestive or otherwise R-rated lyrics in some songs...)
This is so cool! An entire song and music video, contemplating life along the 1 ‐ Spring Garden route in Halifax. Click below to see a route overview and to listen/experience.

This website references actual projects that I have actually worked on. My connection to each project may be or may have been as an advisor/consultant, an employee of a transit industry vendor or a direct employee of a transit agency. Projects featured are intended as examples of my work and my capabilities; I do not claim ownership of any project delivered by any vendor or produced for any agency. Thanks :)
